Tribal Professional Development

The Tribal Professional Development Program facilitates employment opportunities in an effort to enhance employability skills and encourage the professional development of Seminole Tribal members through various programs.

Work Experience Program (WEP):

The Work Experience Program (WEP) provides Seminole Tribal Members with job placement opportunities within the various STOF departments. The goal of WEP is to enhance employability and strengthen employment history. WEP is a one-time twenty four (24) month opportunity. Upon successful completion, the participants are issued a certificate of achievement.

Summer Work Experience Program (SWEP):
The Summer Work Experience Program (SWEP) is an eight (8) week program that provides Seminole Tribal Member Students with job placement within the various Seminole Tribe of Florida (STOF) departments in order to introduce and/or enhance employability skills..

Advanced Career Development (ACD):
Advanced Career Development (ACD) is a compensable employment and leadership development opportunity for advanced degree candidates. The ACD is a one-time 24 month program and once accepted, applicants will be rotated quarterly within each department. This program is currently being managed by the Seminole Tribe of Florida Human Resources Department. Success Story

We want to congratulate Ms. Katherine Billie for her achievement in successfully completing the Work Experience Program!  Katherine has been a part of WEP for over a year and was recently hired as a full time employee by the Big Cypress Housing Department. Recently Katherine answered a few questions to reflect on her experience with the program.

  • Were your initial objectives for joining WEP met?
    • Yes, when I decided to apply for a job I was thankful for having WEP to join first. I wasn’t sure if the position I received would really interest me or even if I would continue in the workforce.

  • What aspects of your job were the most satisfying?
    • Being able to greet the members and assisting them with their housing needs.

  • What was your overall experience with WEP?
  • I think WEP is very beneficial. It gives members the opportunity to attain a job depending on what their goals are or how they want to contribute to the community. I also enjoyed the online trainings provided through WEP, they were very helpful.I would like to thank the Tribal Professional Development Work Experience Program for assisting me with a position that promoted to a full-time position.
