Mendy Martinez
K-12 Program Specialist (Tribal Wide)
My name is Mendy Martinez and I currently reside in Immokalee, Florida. For the past several years, I have had the opportunity to work in different healthcare and educational work environments. When I graduated from high school, my first job was working with kids at an after school program. While working there, I was also simultaneously taking full time courses at a local community college.
Originally, I had been interested in becoming a dental hygienist and found the dental assistant course at Lorenzo Walker Institute of Technology (LWIT). It was a 13-month program that enabled me to go to school on a full time basis and also continue to work with kids. I decided that I would work as a dental assistant until I graduated. Then proceed to finish hygiene school.
I graduated from LWIT in 2013 and started working as a dental assistant for the Seminole Tribe of Florida in 2014. I have had the opportunity to learn about all different areas of the healthcare field which led me to pursue my Bachelors of Science degree with an emphasis on Health System Administration. Although I completed my degree in December of 2017, I have decided the healthcare/dental field was no longer intended for me. Currently, I am working for the Tribe as a K-12 Program Specialist at the Center for Student Success and Services.
Hobbies: Reading, hiking, traveling, and music.
Favorite quote: The roots of education are bitter, but the fruit is sweet. - Aristotle.
